Building a
Foundation for
Sustainable IS

Capacity

LISN brings together country alliances of implementation scientists, local policymakers, and PEPFAR implementing partners to build a resilient base of in-country implementation science expertise.

Local Context & Ownership

Alliances are designed to respond to country-specific priorities, building lasting in-country IS expertise and leadership.

Implementation Science Focus

We leverage IS methodologies to close the gap between what we know works and how effectively it is delivered on the ground.

Multi-Sector Collaboration

Anchored in partnerships between scientists, policymakers, and PEPFAR implementing partners for maximum real-world impact.

How LISN Works

From Alliance to Network

1
Forming
Local Alliances
Country-specific alliances are formed, bringing together scientists, policymakers, and program implementers around shared HIV priorities.
2
Setting
Priorities
Each alliance identifies the most pressing implementation challenges within its country context through participatory processes.
3
IS Research
& Training
Alliances conduct IS studies and build local research capacity through training, mentorship, and collaborative research activities.
4
Knowledge
Sharing
Findings, tools, and lessons are shared across the full cross-alliance network via Africa RISEN, amplifying impact regionally.

Nine Alliances,
One Connected Network

Each LISN alliance is grounded in its national priorities, partners and health system realities and united by the shared goal of advancing implementation science for HIV.

Africa RISEN (Africa Regional Implementation Science Education Network)

Africa RISEN is the cross-alliance hub that connects all nine country alliances. Africa RISEN facilitates shared learning, cross-country training, resource exchange, and collaborative research across the full LISN network. It serves as the backbone of regional IS capacity building in sub-Saharan Africa. This means LISN members can learn from one another, avoid working in silos, and turn country-level experience into shared regional progress.
